Dan Stone

I am a descendant of that extended family of Stones who migrated westward from Connecticut in the first decades of the 19th century and settled in Northeastern Pennsylvania (and various places in New York State, with some in subsequent generations venturing into Ohio and the Midwest.) This set of ancestors appears to be distinct from the Abingdon Stones of Luzerne County. Curiously, I am also a descendant of Hugh of Barbados – but on my mother’s side. My surname was brought to the New World by my 8th great paternal grandfather, William Stone, a member of Rev. Henry Whitfield’s party of Puritans who arrived in what would become Guilford, Connecticut in 1639.

My wife Judy and I share the pastorate of Delmont United Methodist church in Severn, Maryland. We are both second career clergy; she was a teacher and I worked in Industrial Relations for so long that the name of the field changed to Human Relations. I earned a B.A. from Penn State and we returned in midlife to Wesley Seminary in Washington DC for our seminary training. If all goes well we will have been married for 45 years in November. We have a son, two daughters and 13 grandchildren.
